Johann (pronounced "Yo-Hahn") is a Filipino-Canadian singer-songwriter and musician from Toronto, Canada. His songs are often airy yet rhythmic, a sonic blend he aims to master under the roof of alternative rock. Citing artists and bands such as Beach House, Deftones, Jeff Buckley, My Bloody Valentine, and Toro y Moi (among many others) as fundamental influences, Johann's music revolves primarily around simple guitars, no-nonsense drum parts and lush vocals—building blocks that carry his lyrics of love, loss, and self-reflection.

Beginning as a drummer for various bands throughout high school and university, Johann naturally felt most comfortable behind the drum kit. However, he has always enjoyed singing and playing the guitar. Due to the pandemic and the inability to collaborate with other musicians in person, Johann decided to bring to light some of his previously unrecorded material, leading to the making of his demo tape, "Johann, Demos," in 2020. Improving his production and songwriting skills, he continued to unearth old and new songs, culminating in his first studio EP, "Becoming Routine," in 2022.

With his 2024 LP, "Surrendering Sunday," Johann furthers the scope of his sound with an emphasis on distorted guitars and energetic drum performances. He views this album as a blueprint for the kind of music he wants to write and record going forward, with the goal of contributing significantly to this generation's emerging alternative artists and bands, especially those from Canada.
